Privacy Policy
Overview
This Privacy Policy describes how the Gemini Bookmark Manager browser extension (the "Extension") handles your data. Your privacy is our priority, and we believe in complete transparency.
Last Updated: March 17, 2026
Data Collection
The Extension collects and processes the minimum amount of data required to function. The following data is accessed:
- Bookmarks (titles, URLs, folder structure): Read from your browser to enable searching, sorting, and AI-assisted categorization. This data is processed locally and, when AI features are used, sent to the Google Gemini API.
- Active Tab URL and page content: Accessed only when you explicitly invoke the "Analyze Page" feature. The current tab's URL, title, and visible meta-content are read and sent to the Google Gemini API for analysis.
-
Gemini API key:
Entered by you and stored exclusively in your browser's local
storage (
chrome.storage.local). It is never transmitted to any server other than Google's API endpoint.
No analytics, telemetry, crash reports, or usage statistics are collected by the Extension.
Data Processing
All bookmark management operations (searching, sorting, folder creation) are performed entirely locally on your device within the browser extension. No data is routed through developer-owned servers at any point.
When you explicitly request an AI feature (e.g., "Sort with AI", "Analyze Page"), the relevant data (bookmark titles/URLs or current page content) is sent directly from your browser to the Google Gemini API for processing. The response (suggested categories or analysis) is returned directly to the Extension and displayed to you.
Data Storage
-
Local browser storage only:
The Extension stores settings and your API key in
chrome.storage.local, which resides on your device. This data is never uploaded to any remote server by the Extension. - No developer-side storage: The developer does not operate any database or backend service. No user data is stored outside your own browser.
- Retention: Locally stored data persists until you uninstall the Extension or manually clear extension storage in your browser settings.
Data Transmission
The only outbound network connection made by the Extension is to
the Google Gemini API endpoint
(https://generativelanguage.googleapis.com/).
What is sent:
- Bookmark titles and URLs (when sorting/categorizing with AI).
- Active tab URL, title, and meta-content (when "Analyze Page" is used).
- Your Gemini API key (as an authorization header, transmitted over HTTPS).
When it is sent:
Only upon explicit user action triggering an AI feature. The Extension does not perform any background network requests.
Google's Privacy Policy:
Data sent to the Gemini API is subject to Google's Privacy Policy. The developer has no control over Google's data handling practices.
Data Protection & Your Rights
We do not sell, trade, rent, or transfer your personal data to any third parties. Your data is never used for advertising, profiling, or credit scoring.
Because no data is stored on developer-owned servers, you have full control over your data at all times:
- Access & Portability: Your bookmarks are managed entirely through Chrome's standard bookmarks API.
- Deletion: Uninstalling the Extension removes all locally stored settings and API key data.
- Correction: You can update or remove your API key at any time in the Extension settings.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
